First opened in November 1969. In its early days Coastlands had
a monopoly on Saturday shopping.
In 1969 Coastlands comprised some 7,300m2 servicing a catchment
of 6,500 people.
Coastlands has been added to eight times since opening with a
major refurbishment completed in 1999.
The complex now comprises some 45,040m2 including 22,107m2 of
exterior stand alone retail, a 1,200m2 multiplex and 1,600m2 of
first floor service/office space.
Coastlands is now New Zealand's fifth largest shopping centre.
The Centre has a mix of national brand stores and owner-operators
such as:
- Pak N Save supermarket
- Woolworths supermarket
- The Warehouse department store
- No 1 Shoe Warehouse
- Briscoes
- a 4 screen Multiplex and;
- over 73 retail specialty stores
